About Wild Aster
Wild Aster is a folk, Americana, and bluegrass trio rooted in central Maryland, performing throughout the mid-Atlantic at festivals, theaters, breweries, and private events. The band was born out of a local bluegrass jam in Frederick, MD, where the members first connected over their shared love of string band music. Each musician brings a unique blend of influences and skills to the group, resulting in Wild Aster’s signature eclectic sound.
The band features Casey Haberman (dobro, guitar, vocals), Dominica Knapp (banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocals), and Michael Stone (guitar, mandolin, vocals). Their debut single, “Empty Handed,” was praised by Your Town Music as “thoughtful,” “nostalgic,” and “velvety.” Blending the yearnful spirit of traditional bluegrass with the storytelling wit of John Prine and their own originals about love, loss, and heartbreak, Wild Aster offers a sound that is as likely to make you stomp your feet as shed a tear.

Wild Aster is an acoustic trio fronted by singer-songwriter Dominica Knapp. Their latest single, “Empty Handed,” is a thoughtful, nostalgic song in a gentle 6/8 time signature. It is velvety, and rich with melodic dobro leads, touches of mandolin tremolo and cross-picking, and subtle background vocals that cushion the rest of the arrangement.

Dominica Knapp/ vocals banjo mandolin guitar
Dominica Knapp is a singer/songwriter based out of Frederick Maryland. She performs in and around Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania as a solo musician and with Wild Aster. Not only specializing in Clawhammer style banjo, guitar and mandolin, Dominica is a powerful and dynamic vocalist as well as a songwriter. Her influences range from American old time, acoustic blues, bluegrass and folk.
Michael J Stone/ vocals guitar mandolin
Michael J Stone is a seasoned and impassioned musician with a rich background in roots music, encompassing bluegrass, folk, indie-country and Americana. With over 20 years of guitar experience and a history of performing live since he was a teenager. Michael’s diverse musical journey has seen him him shine in various settings – from thrilling audiences in big band/funk ensembles at Maryland’s jazz festivals to delivering heartfelt performances in intimate bluegrass and Americana venues.
Casey Haberman/ vocals dobro guitar
Casey Haberman is an accomplished vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, with many years of performing experience, and a creative and intuitive approach to Dobro. His musical influences range from roots blues and bluegrass to Irish folk and punk rock, and his diverse influences come through in interesting ways in his playing. Casey has a strong and soulful tone to his vocals, and a tasteful approach to his Dobro playing, both of which enhance the music of Wild Aster.
